Les Choristes

Les Choristes is a French film directed by Christophe Barratier. Clement Mathieu, a despondent composer who decided to take the job at Fond de l'Etang, a boarding school for hopeless young boys, arrived at the depressing and intimidating door. The school president, Chabert, a harsh, egotistical man, insisted that these boys need nothing than punishment and fearful authorities. He himself was the perfect example of how the school was supposed to be run: by his famous motto, "action-reaction", he managed to keep the kids from misbehaviors but also planted the seed of hate inside these young minds. Clement Mathieu, on the other hand, discovered the music talent of these kids, believed artistic pleasure and pursue may be more effective than Chabert's rigid methods.

Clement established a chior, and taught the boys to sing. The music proved to work better than Chabert's rage. The boys seemed to start improving. Pierre Morhange, a lonely, rebellious child in the shcool, turned out to have a voice of an angel. Clement decided to nurture his talent. However, a psycho teenager, Mondain, arrived at the school and started causing trouble; he finally caused a fire which forced Clement leave his job. Pépinot, the youngest boy who lost his parents followed Clement to the bus stop. Although at first relunctant, Clement finally agreed to take Pépinot with him and leave Fond de l'Etang. Clement Mathieu freed these students from the ruthlessness of the school, gave them the sense of security and direction, which leaded to Pierre and Pépinot's final success. The students were forbidden by the president from saying goodbye, though they flew their farewell message as paper planes out of the windows. Pierre finally turned into an accomplished musician and Pépinot became a composer; all because Clement
Mathieu, the wonderful teacher who changed the direction of these boys’ lives.
